Kathy began swimming competitively at the age of 8 in her hometown of Niles, Michigan. At first it was a challenge just to swim 25 yards but the lure of ribbons, medals, Ewoks, and personal bests kept her at it. When she moved to New York and heard about swimming in the Hudson River she thought it was an insane idea. But she decided to give it a try since she never backs down from a challenge. Her first taste (and we don't mean literally) of the Hudson River whetted her interest and she hasn't quit since. She has moved from short races to longer culminating with swimming the Marathon (MIMS) as a member of a four woman relay team. In September she changed her venue slightly and did the Alcatraz Swim in San Francisco. She hopes to swim the Marathon again in June as part of a two woman team and perhaps ultimately to swim it solo. When she isn't in the water Kathy works as a freelance film editor. Her company is quite appropriately named "Sync or Swim."
