About Richard
Rick Born is a Professor of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Director of the PhD Program in Neuroscience. He graduated from DePauw University with a BA (chemistry) in 1983, received his MD from HMS in 1988 and then did postdoctoral fellowships with David Hubel (HMS) from 1988 to 1992 and Bill Newsome (Stanford) from 1992 to 1995. He returned to the Dept. of Neurobiology at HMS in 1995 to start his own lab and has remained there since, with the exception of a stint (2005-6) as Chercheur Associé at the Centre de Recherche Cerveau et Cognition in Toulouse, France. He lives in Brookline with his wife, daughter, and dog. His principle hobbies are embarrassing his teenage daughter, swimming (in the ocean, when possible), riding his bicycle (in the Pyrenees, when possible) and drinking good red wine (from Burgundy, when possible).
