| Non-point Source Pollution | Non-point source pollutants and are derived from a broad area and can not be traced to a specific location. They include rainwater runoff and atmosphere pollution. In New York City, paved surfaces lead to runoff from streets containing oil, litter and dust. Surprisingly, suburban areas are often provide more non-point source pollution. Lawns, roads, agriculture, broken septic tanks, construction sites, landfill are sources of sediment, fertilizers, pesticides, bacteria, viruses, salt, oils and heavy metals. Atmosphere pollution includes mercury, nutrients and soot. |
