Governors Island Ferry Terminal, Manhattan (Next to and northeast of the Staten Island Ferry)
8:00-8:50 AM – Swimmer Ferry check-in (Manhattan, see note below) Photo ID is required.
9:00 AM – Swimmers take ferry to Governors Island
Note: Swimmers must be on this restricted-access 9:00 AM ferry to participate in the event. If you miss this ferry, you will miss the event. There is no other transport to Governors Island this early in the morning. Spectators may take the 9:00 AM, 10:00 AM or 11:00 AM ferries from Manhattan, space permitting.
Governors Island, near Pier 101 (about a 3-minute walk to the left upon exiting the ferry)
9:00 AM – Swimmer Check-in begins (on Governors Island; must be on 9:00 AM ferry from Manhattan – check-in 8:15 AM) – Photo ID is required.
9:30 AM – Baggage Check opens
10:00 AM – Swimmer Check-in and baggage check closes (on Governors Island; must be on 9:00 AM ferry from Manhattan)
10:20 AM – Swimmer meeting
10:35 AM – Swimmers line up to board start boats
10:45 AM – Swimmers board start boats
11:15 AM – Swimmers enter the water by jumping off start boats
11:25 AM – Swim Start (first wave of five)
12:05 PM – First swimmer arrives at finish
12:50 PM – Last Swimmer arrives at finish
1:00 PM – Baggage area closes – all baggage must be picked up
– Awards ceremony
There will be a special kayak trip to the Long Island City Boathouse after the Awards ceremony. This post-swim event is free and open to anyone who has paddled before AND who can make the two-hour paddle comfortably, which will be at an easy pace with very favorable currents. NYC Swim will provide safety vessel escorts for a portion and or all of the trip. This event is subject to weather. You may enroll here; please sign up by 7:00 PM on Friday, July 27.

New Jersey Paddlers: You may put in at Peninsula Park, alongside the Morris Canal in Jersey City (near the foot of Washington Boulevard and immediately north of Liberty State Park). Please aim to get there by 9:20 AM. Paddlers will paddle across the Hudson River at 9:30 AM as a group to the check-in on Governors Island. Note that most street parking in this area is by permit only between 8 AM and 6 PM on Saturday.
Car-Toppers who plan to ferry to Governors Island: If you are car-topping to Governors Island, you must take the 9:00 AM restricted-access ferry to the Island. You should plan to arrive at the Ferry Terminal no later than 8:15 AM, since vehicle lines for the ferry can get very long. Please email info@nycswim.org and provide your name and vehicle information (year, make and model, license plate number) so we can give it to ferry personnel.
Note to Paddlers who will be borrowing Kayaks: If you are borrowing a kayak, you MUST be at the Governors Island Ferry Terminal by 8:30 AM in order to pick up your kayak and be on time for Paddler Check-in at Governors Island.
Directions to Governors Island Ferry Terminal
By Subway:
Local 1 to South Ferry, or Express 4 or 5 to Bowling Green, or R to Whitehall.
By Bus:
M15 (East Side) to South Ferry or M6 (West Side) from 57th Street.
By Car:
From the East Side: Take the FDR Drive to Exit 1, South Ferry. As you exit, stay in the left lane and turn left around the (left) u-turn at the end of the street in front of the Staten Island Ferry terminal. The Governors Island Ferry is adjacent to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal.
From the West Side: Take the West Highway around the tip of Lower Manhattan and go through the Battery Underpass. When you emerge from the Underpass, take the first exit, Exit 1, Staten Island Ferry. Stay left, and make a left-hand u-turn onto South Street going south. Stay to your left and make the (left) u-turn at the end of the street in front of the Staten Island Ferry terminal. The Governors Island Ferry is adjacent to the Staten Island Ferry Terminal.
Note that disruptions to subway service are possible. Check www.mta.info for service advisories that may affect your trip.

Pier 40 (Hudson River Park at West Houston Street)
4:00-8:00 PM – Bag stuffing
Directions to Pier 40:
By Subway: Take the 1 train to Houston/Varick Street. Walk west to West Street (approximately four blocks) and cross over to Hudson River Park – Pier 40 is the large structure directly in front of you as you approach. Take A, B, C, D, E, F or V train to West 4th Street; walk west to Hudson River Park and south to Pier 40.
By Bus: Take the M8 to West Street, cross over to Hudson River Park and walk south to Pier 40. Take the M21 to Washington/Houston Street; walk west to West Street and cross over to Hudson River Park – Pier 40 is the large structure directly in front of you as you approach.
As you approach Pier 40 at the West Street/Houston Street intersection, you will see a guard booth directly in front of you. Adjacent to the guard booth is a walkway that leads to the soccer field. We are in the back near the picnic tables, in front of the soccer field.
