Are the ferry and the barbecue included? Are the ferry and the barbecue included?
The round-trip ferry trip between New York or New Jersey and Liberty Island is included with swim entry. NYC Swim provides ferry access at the following times:
From Gangway 5 in Battery Park, Manhattan, to Liberty Island:
12:20 PM – 4:30 PM: Every 20-25 minutes
From Liberty State Park, Jersey City, New Jersey to Liberty Island:
12:30 PM – 4:30 PM: Every 40 minutes
The above times are regularly scheduled tourist ferries for which we will have expedited check-in and entry. The last boat leaves at 4:30 and there is security screening etc. prior to boarding; we will not be able to accommodate arrivals after 4:10 PM.
Check in at the NYC Swim tent for access. If you wish to travel to the island earlier, you will need to purchase a ticket from Statue Cruises. Please see the Schedule page for a more detailed event timeline.
After the swim, we are running two charter ferries that will make stops in both New Jersey and Manhattan. They leave the island at 7:45 PM and 9:05 PM.
The post-race barbecue is not included in the swim entry fee. Swimmers wishing to attend the barbecue must purchase a ticket online here by Friday, June 29, at 10:30 a.m. (please select the "BBQ only" option).

Guest entry is unlimited and available until 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 29. Anyone wishing to stay on Liberty Island later than 6:15 PM must have purchased a ferry ticket from us in advance. Guest tickets for the ferry and barbecue are available here and may be purchased under anyone’s name. (Guests will need to know which name they are registered under.) Note that each type of ticket requires a separate transaction.
See above for ferry times, which are the same for swimmers as for guests.
Children under age 4 travel free of charge and do not require advance ferry ticket purchase. Pets are not allowed. Why is the pool certification time requirement for Liberty Island faster than for other races? The pool certification requirement reflects the challenging nature of the Liberty Island Swim course, which is generally more difficult than other events of a similar distance due to the reverse "current" part of the way around the island. Since swimmers will be swimming around the island, they will receive tidal assist when they swim in one direction but will have to swim against the same current (which may be building or become increasingly difficult) going in the opposite direction. To make progress against the current, swimmers are required to have a requisite amount of speed (which is reflected in the event requirements) otherwise they may swim in place or go backwards even while putting forth maximum effort. Accordingly, swimmers in this event need to be faster swimmers than those in NYC Swim’s other events in order to complete the course.
