Governors Island Swim

Spend the morning jumping off a ferry boat and circling a piece of Manhattan at this challenging 2-Miler around the birthplace of New York City, with great views of Lower Manhattan, Jersey City, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and, of course, Governors Island itself.

Ferry information for spectators can be found in the Race Day Info section on the Schedule tab.

Course Description

Participants in the Governors Island Swim will enter the water from a ferry just off Castle Williams. The swimmers will head south from the start and navigate around the southern tip of Governors Island. As swimmers round the southern tip of the Island, they will head north, proceeding up the Buttermilk Channel which lies between Governors Island and Brooklyn. There are three large piers (Lima, Tango, and Yankee) along this portion of the course. Swimmers are not allowed to swim closer than 20 yards to the end of any pier. After passing the third pier in the Channel, swimmers will start rounding the northeast side of the Island. Swimmers will pass Dock 101 and head towards a barge finish located just before the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel air vent.
