Little Red Lighthouse Swim

This 5.85-Mile swim from 165th Street, within view of the Little Red Lighthouse, to Clinton Cove (Pier 96, at 56th Street), is one of our oldest and most popular events and features views of upper Manhattan and the Palisades. Thanks to the expected tidal assist, this is a great way to get started with longer-distance swimming.

This year's event is being held in conjuction with Shakespeare on the Hudson. After the swim, everyone is invited to an informal, pay-as-you-go dinner at P. D. O'Hurleys Bar & Grill at Pier 84 (West 44th Street).

Race Day Info: The Little Red Lighthouse Swim is one of our longer swim series events. Many participants ask whether or not we provide aid stations with water and/or nutrition along the course. It is impractical to set up a water station in the middle of the river, both because the currents make it very difficult for the swimmer to stop and collect anything and because it is hard for boats to hold their position to provide this type of assistance.

If you feel that you will need either water or fuel along the course, you should pack it with you on the swim. Some participants place gel packs or some other supplements in their suit or cap; some swimmers also attach water bottles to their bodies. It’s a good idea to practice your carrying method in advance.

Please remember that you are responsible for any bottles or other items that you carry with you into the water; do not pollute the waterways. There will be ample food and drink for swimmers and volunteers at the finish.
