Stars & Stripes: Aquathlon and Swim

Just in time for triathlon season and the week before the extremely popular NYC Triathlon, here's a chance to practice open water swimming and swim-run transitions. This fun and challenging multi-sport event combines a 1.5-km swim in the Hudson River and a flat, fast, scenic 5-km run in Hudson River Park and Riverside Park. You can do the whole event yourself or split the sports with a friend as part of a two-person relay. Can't find a runner? Check out the swim-only Tune Up on the same day or help out as a volunteer. Everyone is invited to an informal, pay-as-you-go meal afterward at the 70th Street Pier Plaza.

Course Description

Swimmers will enter the water at W. 72nd Street Kayak Dock, Riverside Park South. They will swim out past the end of the pier and turn south to swim down the Hudson River with the current. After passing the Marine Transfer Pier and the Department of Sanitation Parking, swimmers will approach Pier 96 and take a left turn (towards Manhattan) to swim in to the finish line. A combination of buoys, support boats, and kayaks will mark/monitor the swim route to help swimmers remain on course.

Transition into running gear at Pier 96.

Run north on Riverside Park recreation path. Turnaround prior to the tunnel at 83rd Street. Return to finish line at Pier 96.
