Race Rules:

RULES: Clothing: One suit (made of porous material), goggles, earplugs, and grease will be allowed. Swim caps, excluding neoprene, are permitted. Assistance: No flotation aids, propulsion devices, or heating devices allowed. No buoyant or heat-retentive suits allowed. Pacing, drafting and towing are not allowed. Swimmers may not touch escort boats, kayaks or any other boat during the event. The swimmer will be disqualified if there is any physical contact with another swimmer or with other persons or objects. All solo swimmers MUST bring at least one and no more than two boat crew members. (NYC Swim will not supply support personnel). Feeding is permissible, but the use of alcohol or illegal drugs is forbidden. Personal Promotion: Swimmers may not allow crew members to wear non-NYC Swim sanctioned gear, may not promote third party sponsors, and may not engage non-pre-approved public relations professionals or agents. Qualifying Swim: All applicants must submit proof of a 4 hour or longer Qualifying Swim in 64/65F, 17/18C or below open water, completed between June 1, 2000 and June 4, 2001, in order to be eligible to participate in this event. Swimmers that are exempted, but must have documentation, from a qualifying swim are: 2000 Finishers of the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim, 1999 or 2000 Finishers of the English Channel, 1999 or 2000 finishers of the Catalina Channel Swim, or finishers of Finishers of a major, documented, open water competition of 4 hours or longer in duration in 64/65F, 17/18C or below water.
