Check-in for the race, the swim start/finish, and run transition are all located on Wards Island within Randall's Island Park, across from Manhattan's East 109th Street (GPS coordinates: 40.789447,-73.932289), just a few blocks north of the footbridge from Manhattan. Access to the islands is via this 103rd Street Footbridge (pedestrians and bicycles only) or the RFK/Triboro Bridge (buses, cars, pedestrians, and bicycles). By Subway:
6 to 103rd Street, then walk east along 102nd Street to the footbridge over the FDR Drive, which connects to the 103rd Street Footbridge. After crossing over to Randall's Island Park, turn left and go north along the waterfront for a few blocks. Check www.mta.info for schedule information.
By Bus:
From the West Side, take the M96 bus, which goes across town from West 96th Street. Check www.mta.info for schedule information. Exit at First Avenue and 97th Street and then walk north to 102nd Street and turn right for the footbridge over the FDR Drive, which connects to the 103rd Street Footbridge.
From the East Side, take the M15 bus running north on First Avenue or south on Second Avenue and ask the driver to let you off as close to 102nd Street as possible. Check www.mta.info for schedule information. Go east to the FDR drive and take the footbridge first over FDR Drive and then the 103rd Street Footbridge.
The M35 bus serves Randall’s Island Park from the northwest corner of 125th Street and Lexington Avenue in Harlem, which is right at the 4/5/6 subway stop and a block east of the 125th Street Metro-North Railroad Station. Be advised that many of the passengers on this bus may be visitors to a psychiatric center and a homeless shelter. Take the bus all the way to the south end of Randall's Island Park to the stop for the Charles Gay Center. Check www.mta.info for schedule information. From there walk south to the waterfront, and then turn right along the roadway, which circles up to the Footbridge. From there, continue north along the waterfront for a few blocks. If you are not familiar with the island, allow yourself some extra time, as signage is sparse and somewhat confusing.
By Bike/On Foot:
The easiest and most direct access point from Manhattan is the 103rd Street Footbridge. This connects to the East River Esplanade greenway, which runs from East 82nd Street to 120th Street, and is also easy to get to from First Avenue, which has a bike lane (turn right at 102nd Street for the footbridges). After crossing over to Randall's Island Park, turn left on the bike path (paved) or pedestrian path (gravel) and go north along the waterfront for a few blocks a few blocks to the race setup area.
Alternately, you can get to Randall’s Island Park from pedestrian ramps from all three spans of the RFK/Triboro Bridge, i.e., from Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan. From any of these ramps, head toward the Manhattan side of the island and then south along the waterfront to find the race setup area. If you are not familiar with the island, allow yourself some extra time, as signage is sparse and somewhat confusing.
By Car:
All automobile access is via the RFK/Triboro Bridge. From Manhattan: If paying with E-Zpass at toll, stay left at toll plaza for the exit ramp to Randall’s Island, immediately after the toll plaza. If paying cash at toll: Stay right for the exit to Randall’s Island, about a half-mile past toll plaza. From Queens: Stay right for the exit to Randall’s Island, immediately after the toll plaza. From the Bronx: Stay right for the exit to Randall’s Island, about a half-mile past toll plaza. Free public parking is available in various designated areas (map).

Pool certification in a manner consistent with the sample template, which can be accessed on your user profile swimmer page, documenting the completion of a continuous 3-mile pool swim (4950 yards/4500 meters) in 2 hour and 15 minutes or better since January 1, 2011. Swim must take place in a traditional swimming pool; "Endless Pool" swims are not acceptable for qualification purposes. [How to upload pool certification]
All pool certifications and qualifying swim information must be received by NYC Swim at least 14 days prior to the date of the race (no later than September 11, 2011). Swimmers who enroll after September 12th must submit their qualification information to NYC Swim within 24 hours of enrollment.
