To provide the best indicator of open water ability and a solid basis for comparison with other swimmers’ pool times, the pool swim should ideally be done in a deep-water, competition-length pool. [Where to do a pool certification swim] [How to upload pool certification] A USMS One Hour Swim of at least 2200 yards/2000 meters (entered with the coach or official in lieu of the lifeguard name) from January 2013 may be used to fulfill this requirement.

All pool certifications and qualifying swim information must be received by NYC Swim at least 14 days prior to the date of the race (no later than May 11, 2013). Swimmers who enroll after May 11th must submit their qualification information to NYC Swim within 24 hours of enrollment. Participants' qualifications will not be accepted, reviewed or approved on race day.
