Preliminary Race Results Are Now Posted
Scheduled for September 22, the Little Red Lighthouse Swim is one of our oldest and most popular events: 10.2-kilometers of Hudson River swimming that is a great way to get started with longer open water distance events. The last two years have seen innovative courses that introduced our swimmers to new sights and experiences along the Hudson. This year's course will seem a bit familiar to those who swam the event in 2010 as we return to 79th Street Boat Basin for the start; however, the 2012 swim will finish at at Dyckman Marina — adding .2-kilometers on to the old course.
If you need a lift on race day, we are offering an optional shuttle for a nominal fee to and from all event locations, including the Conrad Hotel in lower Manhattan. Space on the shuttle is limited, so please reserve your seat by 8:00 am on Thursday, September 20.
All volunteers who enroll in advance to assist with the race set-up, check-in and swim start will ride to the finish free of charge, so if you have family or friends who would like to come out and lend a hand, please spread the word to them.

| | Finish: | | La Marina, formerly Dyckman Marina (western end of Dyckman Street at the Hudson River) | (show) (hide) Directions to Finish: | A perk of the new course is that the finish area is much closer to the street grid and the subway than the previous finish location in Fort Washington Park. (GPS coordinates: N 40 52.175, W 73 55.947)
By Subway: Take the A train to Dyckman Street. Exit the station and walk west to the end of Dyckman Street. The marina is at the foot of the street, after it crosses under the Henry Hudson parkway.
By Bicycle: The finish area is not along the riverfront greenway/bike path, but that path can get you most of the way there. If you are coming from the south, you can take the path up the hill by the Little Red Lighthouse and continue alongside Henry Hudson Drive until the end of the path, at a short flight of stairs leading down to Riverside Drive. From there, turn left to continue downhill on Staff Street one block to Dyckman Street, and then go left again to the end of Dyckman Street.

| | Age Requirement: | 15 years and over (younger swimmers may be accepted based on swimming experience). | | Experience Requirement: | Safety concerns require us to ensure that every participant in a NYC Swim swim event has adequate swim experience; thus we have set certain qualifying standards for participation in each of our events. You may register for a NYC Swim event even if you have not completed a qualifying swim, and your enrollment will be approved upon verification of your qualifying swim details. It is your responsibility to submit qualification information. NYC Swim does not provide refunds or transfers for swimmers who are not approved to participate in an event.
The experience requirement for participating in the Little Red Lighthouse Swim is as follows:
The completion of any of these NYC Swim events: MIMS Solo Swim, MIMS 2-person Relay, Little Red Lighthouse Swim, or Governors Island Swim since January 1, 2010 OR the 2010 Park to Park Swim
--- or ---
--- or ---
--- or ---
Pool certification in a manner consistent with the sample template, which can be accessed on your user profile swimmer page, documenting the completion of a continuous 3-mile pool swim (4950 yards/4500 meters) in 2 hour and 15 minutes or better since January 1, 2012. To provide the best indicator of open water ability and a solid basis for comparison with other swimmers pool times, the pool swim should ideally be done in a deep-water, competition-length pool. [Where to do a pool certification swim] [How to upload pool certification]
All pool certifications and qualifying swim information must be received by NYC Swim at least 14 days prior to the date of the race (no later than September 8, 2012). Swimmers who enroll after September 8th must submit their qualification information to NYC Swim within 24 hours of enrollment. Participants' qualifications will not be accepted, reviewed or approved on race day. | | Predicted Water Conditions: | Approximately 68 to 74 degrees. Wetsuits/non-traditional swim attire may be worn but may affect a swimmer's eligibility for awards. The full wetsuit policy can be viewed here.
There can be a substantial amount of chop in the water from wind & tide action. The waterways are salt-water and there is shipping traffic. There may be random jetsam & flotsam in the waterways.
