Manhattan Island Marathon Swim

On June 18, 2011 NYC Swim will present the annual 28.5 Mile Manhattan Island Marathon Swim. This is our longest and premier event of the season, a full counter-clockwise circumnavigation of the island of Manhattan.

Field Size:25 solo swimmers and up to 18 relay teams
which may have 2, 4, or 6 members 
Awards:Swimmers will be competing once again for a place on the Gallagher Cup, a beautifully crafted trophy from Tiffany's.
Male & Female Solo - Top 3 Overall
2 Person Relay - Top 1 Overall
4 Person Relay - Top 1 Overall
6 Person Relay - Top 1 Overall
Each successful swimmer & relay team will receive completion awards. 
Directions to Start:South Cove is 1/2 Mile south of North Cove.
By Subway
Take the (R) to Rector Street or take the (4,5) to Bowling Green. Walk due west. Cross West Street into Battery Park City. Continue walking west to the Esplanade along the Hudson River and head north to the North Cove Yacht Harbor or south to South Cove.Please note that weekend disruptions to subway service are possible. Check www.mta.info for service advisories that may affect your trip.

By Bus
Take the M9, M10, or M22 to Battery Park City. Follow On Foot directions below.

On Foot
North Cove Yacht Harbor is located in Battery Park City, on South End Avenue between Two World Financial Center and the Hudson River, outside of the World Financial Center’s Winter Garden. Check In is adjacent to Pumpkin Park and NYC Police Memorial. South Cove, the start of the race, is located 1/2 mile south of North Cove.

By Ferry
Direct from the Lackawanna Terminal to the World Financial Center or Pier A. Information: (908) GO-FERRY.

Time Limit:9:30 hours 
Age Requirement:19 years and over (Younger swimmers may be accepted based on swimming experience). 
Predicted Water Conditions:Seasonal Temperature 64/67°F (17/19°C). There can be a substantial amount of chop in the water from wind, tide action, and boat traffic. The waterways are salt water and there is shipping traffic. There may be random jetsam and flotsam in the waterways.
