Stars & Stripes: Aquathlon

This unique, fun and challenging multi-sport event includes a 1.5 km swim in the Hudson River and a flat, fast and scenic 5 km run through Riverside Park with views of the Hudson River, George Washington Bridge, the New Jersey shoreline and much more. Go the distance solo, or form a 2-person team.

Awards:Awards will be presented sometime after the run course officially closes at 9:45 a.m.
Overall placement and Age-Group for solo participants.
Overall placement for Male, Female and Mixed relay teams. 
Age Requirement:15 years and over 
Experience Requirement:Safety concerns require us to ensure that every participant in a NYC Swim swim event has adequate swim experience; thus we have set certain qualifying standards for participation in each of our events. Your registration for a NYC Swim swim is not complete until the NYC Swim receives acceptable evidence of your qualifying swim. The experience requirement for participating in the NYC Aquathlon: Stars & Stripes is as follows:

The completion of any NYC Swim open water swim, Aquathlon or open water swim clinic within the past three years (2003 - 2005)
----OR---
Any DOCUMENTED timed open water swim race of 3/4 mile or more within the past three years (2003 - 2005)
----OR---
Any DOCUMENTED Sprint Triathlon with a timed Open Water Swim within the past three years (2003 - 2005)
----OR---
Pool Certification, in a manner consistent with the sample verification letter which can be accessed here, documenting the completion of a continuous 1 mile pool swim in 45 minutes or better and faxed to 212-784-6850. Your qualifying swim must take place no earlier than March 1st of the current year, and all pool certifications must be received by NYC Swim at least 14 days prior to the date of the race. 
Predicted Water Conditions:Approximately 60 to 65 degrees. Wetsuits may be worn.
There can be a substantial amount of chop in the water from wind & tide action. The waterways are salt-water and there is shipping traffic. There may be random jetsam & flotsam in the waterways. For additional information on swimming and water quality in the Hudson River, please see our FAQ page.
